I'm lucky to have some pretty incredible friends. Out-of-this-world talented, inspiring, clever, generous, and wonderful people. Two of them are Emily & Rachael, and they have created an incredible thing called A Bit More Soul. Version 2.0 was held in Wellington last week and I was lucky enough to be a part of the whole...
It's a pretty miserable day here today, so I'm stuck in the office dreaming of places I'd rather be. So why not post some photos of those places!
Here's one of my favourite places in the world, and, in my opinion, certainly the finest day walk in New Zealand. Only a couple of hours from the main Milford road, Gertrude...
Hanging out for the right conditions to shoot some UAV stuff up at Lake Kaniere - popped up the other day and it clouded over on me. Still, I think there's some nice angles here, and it'll be stunning when the lake is calm and the sky is blue!
Last week Dave and I took the UAV up to Coal Creek Falls, Runanga, just north of Greymouth, for a wee test. We wanted to try flying amongst the trees, and also to see if we could get a better perspective on the falls than the standard lookout offers.
Sorting out some imagery from around the region, so I thought I'd put together some galleries based on area. Here's a collection of landscapes from around the Grey District. Contact me for licensing or print purchase enquiries.
Dave's just finished the edit on a shoot we did for the Department of Conservation promoting the improved Kayak Trail on the Lagoon.
It was great fun to shoot. Hanging with bugman Ruud Kleinpaste was fantastic, and flying the UAV over the lagoon went well. I think the aerials really add a lot to the finished product....
Last weekend I attended one of the biggest events on the NZ photography calendar. The New Zealand Institute of Professional Photography Iris Awards and InFocus conference. It's a huge deal - the print-judging is a showcase for the work of the finest professional photographers in the country, and the conference is packed...
I snuck down to Lake Kaniere early one morning last week and struck a beautiful misty, calm dawn. I shot a few landscapes and then met Dave to shoot some timelapse and UAV footage for a project we are working on. Here are a few shots from the early morning.
On Friday I shot my first UAV based panorama, stitched from 6 images in PS CC. I think the result is pretty good! Looking forward to trying more, as soon as the weather improves again.
It helps that Okarito Lagoon is one of my favourite places in the whole world!
Just upgraded to a brushless gimbal on the CineStar UAV. Early results are incredible! Here's a wee edit from a test shoot down the road at Brunner Mine site. There is a small amount of post-stabilisation, but only to polish little wiggles, nothing like as much as was necessary before.
